Staying Motivated and Well in tough times can be a challenge but its achievable

Choose determination over desperation

Think of how you feel when you feel desperate versus when you feel determined in tough times. Living in fear,  anxiety and negativity will cause you to feel desperate and can lead you into a downward spiral, as long as you have food, shelter and clothing, you aren’t truly desperate. Do you have family, friends, work mates, community support networks? if the answer is “Yes” you aren’t truly desperate. Determination over desperation on the other hand offers hope. Its necessary to trust and embrace possibility. “Yes” even in tough times. Be determined to take persistent action everyday toward making your life better. Be bold, brave & brilliant and do whatever it takes.

Go on a media Fast

Don’t worry about being out of touch with all information, If something happens that you need to know you can read the headlines as you fire up the laptop or talk to someone. If you have money in the stock market for the long run you don’t have to micro manage it. If you want to know what the news is today it will be the same as yesterday, same fear, different story.

Uplift Yourself’

Choose to listen to music, listen to comedy ,see old movies, play games, take your shoes off walk in the grass, sand, mud. Play with your dog, look at a picture of a rain forest or garden if you cant be in one. There are a million ways to do things that uplift you write a list of what yours are . Engage in positive activities they produce neuropeptides that produce feelings of happiness, contentment , excitement, joy and hope. Read positive and inspirational information , “success brings success”.

Appreciate Everything

Learn to live in a state of gratitude” being thankful for what you have food, a shower, a life. Acknowledge the value within and the value without. When you are fretting and fearful, stop and think of your best memories. Dwell on them for a while, remembering the joy and gratitude you felt. Bring those feelings into the present moment, the more you acknowledge gratitude the happier you will become. If you look at the glass half full not half empty. If you focus on whats wrong in your life it will not get better, concentrate on finding a solution and being grateful with what you have.

Learn to live with less

Most people blow their needs out of proportion, no matter how much stuff they have they always want more, if you spent as much time learning how to live with less as you do trying to acquire more  and choose to lead a simpler life you would be more satisfied and centered. give up smoking, drink occasionally, grow your veggies, share a ride,  write a list of ways you can do things easier, cheaper and simpler. stick to it

Forgive yourself for anything you could have done but didn’t do

Forgive Yourself, if you would have known better, you would have done better. Let go of mistakes that you have made in the past. you have carried the ball and chain for too long.Take it off you will feel lighter and happier.

This too shall pass

“The only certain thing about life is change” in a time of need my sister said that too me and It really helped me, death and taxes are a given but nothing is permanent, tough times can be seen as a chance to grow as a person, think of all the things that have been hard but made you stronger and a better more understanding, flexible person as a result.

Breath

When you catch yourself feeling fearful, worried and desperate, stop and take a deep breath. you can  choose to allow yourself to grow from whatever the outcome is and not be anxious or worried.

Relax your muscles

Close your eyes breath deeply and slowly, think of your favorite places, people and things. Learn to live in the present and enjoy the very moment you are in now.

Play 

Walk

Rest

Eat Mood boosting foods

Seek Help

If you have tried all of the above and are frozen by your emotions, feel trapped and cannot overcome them, seek professional help from a therapist. Doing something to improve is the answer, doing nothing will not change the situation
